Breakfast with Lucy Cornes – Time and Wellbeing

How do you use your time? Time is now!

Lucy shared some entry points in her life. Have you had any entry points in your life. Events that may have been catastrophic in your life but provided you with growth and expansion. They may have been challenging times but they propelled you forward. They may have given you a greater level of perspective and gratitude.

Trust the timing of life! You are the most important person in your life. I think we forget this, I may say it again.. You are the most important person in your life. ..

Do an audit of your life, ask these questions of yourself:

• Where do you spend time?

• Who do you spend time with?

• Who do you give your time away to? (who do you say yes to)

• How much do you charge for it? (if you are in the service industry)

• What do you sacrifice for it?

There are some things that are non-negotiable for example your health is so important. You should slow down & re-consider health and prioritise those blood tests, pap smears etc. Otherwise this will impact your long term wellness.

“If your life is too busy for “xx” then change your life! (xx being what you love in life i.e. yoga, exercise)

How do you know if you may not be using time to its full potential. How do you answer the following questions??

• If some-one asks you how you are going and you respond, “I’m busy”

• If you feel frustrated a lot of the time

• You feel overwhelmed

• You feel underwhelmed by life

• You are usually late

• You participate in self-sacrificing behaviours

• You have inner dialogue

• If you use alcohol or prescriptions drugs

So, how can you change your relationship with time?

• Learning to say “No” – (don’t have to explain yourself, just say No, it is a powerful tool)

• Engage in time saving tools i.e. hire a cleaner, a nanny

• Meditation and mindfulness (be present, be focused on one action at a time)

Some other interesting points….

• Everyone is addicted to busy! Doing it all is overrated. Select a few tasks and do them well versus lots of tasks but not doing any of them well!

• We are always connected – to screens and phones… We have forgotten how to be bored. We are always wired. Leave your phones at home when you go out, try turning them off on Sunday’s for the full day. Get back to nature and get grounded with nature.

• The ability “to tilt”. That is tilt to one side, in other words in any given day you may have your family, friends, business and health as your big buckets… but the kids get sick so you may have to tilt more towards your family for that day! This may mean missing out on your exercise – even though you have a goal of exercising 3 times a week. This is okay, don’t be hard on yourself, you will get back on track as soon as possible.

• Make regular time to examine your relationship with time. Challenge yourself. Spend time with what matters and makes you happy, follow your passions.

Her best quote of the talk that I would love to leave you with…

“If you have been bought to it, you can be brought through it”.
