There is no failure. Only Feedback.

There is no failure. Only feedback.” Robert Allen

Have you ever been in a situation where you know to improve you have to throw yourself into and embrace all the feedback you can get, no matter how scary it may feel?

We all need people who will give us feedback. That’s how we improve.” Bill Gates

Recently I have worked up the courage to challenge myself through a few activities. The key is to find activities that will add to your skillset & support your goals. When was the last time you challenged yourself and acted on the feedback you received?

In a growth mindset, challenges are exciting rather than threatening. So rather than thinking, oh, I’m going to reveal my weaknesses, you say, wow, here’s a chance to grow.” Carol Dweck

My activities focused on my goal to build my facilitation skills. Below are 3 courses where I had the opportunity to present and receive valuable feedback.

“Strive for continuous improvement, instead of perfection.” Kim Collins

1. As part of my accreditation in the Be Well Program https://www.bewellco.io/, teach backs are required. Despite the fact, I was nervous the feedback was valuable. Covered everything from tone, words I used, and adding in more of my own stories. On reflection, if I didn’t put myself forward, I would not have had the opportunity to improve.

2. In Adelaide has anyone worked with the wonderful David Griggs and his team? Here is a link to more info. http://www.speakersstudio.com.au/workshops/beyond-words/ I was able to participate in exercises that allowed me to spontaneous, think on my feet, unlock my creativity all while having fun with others. Over the 6 weeks, I never knew what we would be up for and there were a few times where my heart was beating fast. On reflection here are a few learnings from that course.

· The courage to give it a go, take a risk.

· Understand the importance of being yourself.

· To just be (be present & self-actualising).

· Breathe! Breathe control equals emotional control.

· You own and know your story; it doesn’t require notes!

3. I am looking forward to reading a book called Future Fit, by Andrea Clarke (https://www.futurefitco.com.au/) when it arrives in the mail soon. I was lucky enough to join a wonderful group to complete a course on Communicating with Impact. There was an opportunity on this course to learn a formula on how to communicate with impact. Then put that learning into practice right there and then and receive valuable feedback from Andrea. Not only did I learn from the feedback I received, but I was also able to build my knowledge by listening to the feedback of others in the group.

Communication is a skill that you can learn. It’s like riding a bicycle or typing. If you’re willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life.” Brian Tracy

In these above examples, I would like to express that I was seeking feedback and all individuals had the skills in providing feedback to me.

Is there something that you would like to work on this year?
